Moving On

It is day four in Raigmore - not actually in the hospital, but in the nursing quarters which reside across the car park from the beast of a building.
So here I am =)
Internet has been touchy, so blogging hasn't been easy, or actually do-able, until now. At least the child lock is off, and I can actually get onto the site without being badgered for my credit card details...

Anyway, here I am, in my little yet larger than expected room, on a floor where flat mates come and go but are never actually seen, in a block with a nice name and amusing cleaner, in a city where I get lost very easily.
Thankfully I am not totally alone; once again RC has come to my aid here, and fortunately I know the Inverness crew well enough to visit the pub with them. In fact, I have been out every night so far since my arrival here on Sunday, which is pretty good going (not always on a boozey do, although alcohol has been moderately involved on most nights). Tonight, however, I have the company of myself, and possibly "Bridget Jones - The Edge of Reason" a bit later on.
Oh, and the occasional noise of Heli-med or coast guard when they come into landing on the helipad around the corner, and the wail of ambulance sirens because the ambo base is also very much next door.
Also, the low rumble of planes seems to resound around the quadrangle here; me thinks their flight path runs directly over the top of the flats, cos you can hear them rather frequently too... like now...

Of course, the reason I'm in Inverness is not purely for the get-away and a student life in a run-down student block to the chorus sound of aircraft and ambulances, although obviously this was an appealing aspect...
I'm here for University - Stirling Uni to be precise - and year two of my nursing training.
It's all getting very serious now, with perplexing assignments (yes, we were given our first essay on day one) and we already know our placements for semester four. Although I'm not complaining about this, because I'm gonna be right where I wanna be - A&E!!! Yes, so it's in Dr Grays again, but it means I can go home for 9 weeks (all 45 mins away by train, or if you step on the gas in the car) and its in a familiar setting. Plus I get to see all my Elgin buddies! And not forgetting returning home to the RC I really know and love.
RC in Inverness is banterful, don't get me wrong. The people are nice, the duties are plentiful (in fact I'm on duty on Sunday - my first Inversneckie one!) But nothing beats Moray West - the good old Elgin Crew. Can't wait to be on duty with them again =)

But aside from RC - for once - I guess life is treating me relatively well here. I like my independence; knowing I can go home whenever I want without a time limit or a worried mum, and generally fending for myself in everything I do. Not that I didn't get that at home, it's just that.... it's different here, knowing I really am free and easy and on my own.

So, what have I been up to?
Well, went for an Indian on Sunday with Dougie, chilled out with Lauren on Monday and made a legendary poster based on Mr Men and Little Miss which the previous occupant of my room left behind (it's now very RC themed - you could call it a family album with a twist...) Then Tuesday was a pub quiz, once again with the RC crew. A fantastic competition, and of course my group came first... at the bottom...... anyhoo...
Tuesday was also day one of uni, but as induction weeks never hold many stories to tell, there's not much to say here, other than it was good to see the old college gang again.
Wednesday was the 'sneckie RC training night, which was good, but obviously Elgin just beats it =P This was followed by a pub sesh, which was brill; a grand way to end the evening!
Thank God I got a lie in this morning.

So that's it for the time being!
I will post more about my Sneckie adventures as and when they come, so stay tuned =)
